Medea

Director: Pier Paolo Pasolini
Year Released: 1969
Rating: 1.5

Like Mr. Rosenbaum said, a crushing disappointment from Pasolini (who usually astounds me): abstract film of Euripides story with mostly nonprofessional actors, natural lighting and gorgeous handheld cinematography, but unlike the Earth trilogy or some of Pasolini's allegorical work (Porcile, Teorema/Theorem) I was completely confused by the story and interpretation; by abandoning dialogue (and the lines that are there are rushed through, prompting rewinding) he alienates those unfamiliar with the story. A minor work - for fans and completists only. Side Note: is it just me, or is there a lot of Paradjanov in Pasolini and a lot of Pasolini in Paradjanov?
