Talk to Me

Director: Danny and Michael Philippou
Year Released: 2022
Rating: 1.5

Social media addicted Australian teenagers, including Mia (Sophie Wilde), Daniel (Otis Dhanji), Jade (Alexandra Jensen) and her brother Riley (Joe Bird), play a dangerous game with a cursed ceramic hand that, when held (while saying the movie's title), causes the individual to "see" a demonic spirit, but once Riley volunteers to take part, things go horribly wrong for him and everyone blames Mia.  The central premise is kind of intriguing and the direction is competent - the Philippou brothers, in their feature film debut, got their start making horror videos on YouTube - but the emphasis on "resolving trauma" is wearisome (Mia's mother committed suicide) and it doesn't quite past the logic test: if what the participants "witness" is so ghastly and the risk of death is so great, why are they so eager to repeatedly do it (equating it with recreational drug use doesn't really fit).  It does have the gall to be consistently mean-spirited, so that's something....
