No Hard Feelings

Unable to pay the taxes on the house in Montauk she inherited from her mother, bartender and ride share driver Maddie (Jennifer Lawrence) accepts an unusual Craigslist ad from Allison and Laird Becker (Laura Benanti and Matthew Broderick) to "date" their socially anxious son Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman) before he heads off to Princeton in exchange for a Buick Regal ... but the 19-year-old is really resistant to her advances.  Those griping about the "age difference" between the leads need to go outside and look at a tree or something: this is a throwback to the 1980's sex comedies but with smart banter, wild physical comedy (the skinny dipping scene has JLaw literally bearing it all) and some clever social commentary regarding misguided helicopter parents and Gen Z's sanctimoniousness.  It also acts as a neat little character study of Maddie, who is in many ways less stable than her "client" ... although her aggressiveness is admittedly off-putting and the movie settles for an easy ending.  Oh, and for the record ... it didn't count.
