Extraction 2

Director: Sam Hargrave
Year Released: 2023
Rating: 1.0

Seriously injured in the previous installment (so many bullet wounds!), mercenary Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) recovers in Austria where he's approached by a man (Idris Elba) with a new mission, this time from his ex-wife Mia (Olga Kurylenko): rescue her sister Ketevan (Tinatin Dalakishvili) and her two children from Davit (Tornike Bziava), her husband, who's holding them hostage in a prison in Georgia (not the state).  While I thought the first one was a sharply directed and tense action movie (with an A-list star), this is a severe step down with its ludicrous plot (attacking the Donau City Towers in Vienna with helicopters?), never-ending gun battles and even less of a back story for the characters.  The aesthetic reminds me of Kojima-san's Metal Gear Solid series that he made for Konami: if they ever decide to do a feature length adaptation of that, Hemsworth would make a fine Snake (... or Big Boss).
