The Tutor (2023) review

Seasoned instructor Ethan (Garrett Hedlund), whose girlfriend Annie (Victoria Justice) is pregnant and they need money, accepts a well-paying job to tutor high school student Jackson (Noah Schnapp), who comes from a wealthy family ... except Jackson becomes increasingly creepy and intrusive by meddling in Ethan's private life.  It initially lets you think it's a cautionary tale about affluenza and the way the rich can mistreat anyone they like with no repercussions ... before flipping it around in the most implausible manner with more than a few plot holes left behind (to go along with some downright puzzling personal decisions).  I'm not sure what screenwriter Ryan King was thinking (if he was thinking at all), but this is - at best - a first draft that needed an extreme overhaul: I mean, who poisons people with strawberries in the 21st century?
