Nocebo

Year Released: 2022
Rating: 1.5

Fashion designer (for children!) Christine (Eva Green) receives a strange phone call and then suddenly has a hallucination involving a mangy dog covered in ticks - several months later she's in ill-health and prone to having "episodes" when she gets a visit from Diana (Chai Fonacier), who claims she was "hired to help" and immediately moves in.  While I acknowledge the underlying message regarding workplace safety and caring for the well-being of your employees is of the utmost importance - it's dedicated to the victims of the 2015 Kentex Factory fire in the Philippines - the "solution" isn't a ninety minute exercise in "Torturing the Bourgeoisie": Diana performs all sorts of mystical rituals and poisons the family's food, making Christine even sicker ... and then everyone meets a bad end.  Something also seems off about the family simply letting the odd Filipina woman walk in and live there right away, but perhaps I have a stronger sense of Stranger Danger....
