Terrifier

Director: Damien Leone
Year Released: 2016
Rating: 1.0

Best friends Tara (Jenna Kanell) and Dawn (Catherine Corcoran) are just trying to have a nice drunken Halloween night out when they cross paths with a mute clown named Art (David Howard Thornton) who destroys everything that comes in his way.  The special effects (done by director Leone) are actually pretty neat - he's quite taken with various ways the human face can be smashed up - but it's not so keen on things like providing a back story or character development (for example: what makes this guy tick?).  All you basically get from it is mindless bloodshed (one victim gets split in half from her lady garden to her head) and a chance to count the "influences" (It, Saw, The Devil's Rejects, maybe a little Cannibal Holocaust).  It's incredibly dumb, but I can't bring myself to totally dismiss something so gleefully mean-spirited.
