Twilight of the Ice Nymphs

Director: Guy Maddin
Year Released: 1997
Rating: 1.0

Striking visuals can't salvage what is a muddled story with lifeless performers - if you asked me what it's about I'd guess it has something to do with love but would wind up shrugging. The lead character has to be one of the least charismatic actors I've seen in a while, though no one else can seem to do better - the dialogue tries to be poetic but sounds wooden. Seeing Maddin's famous short The Heart of the World before it only makes matters worse; Heart is such a dynamic punch in the face it makes this look like a filmed play.
