Spetters

Director: Paul Verhoeven
Year Released: 1980
Rating: 1.0

If I actually took Verhoeven seriously this film would have more of an impact; as it stands the targets of his message (which include: homophobia, religion, depression, misogyny and the handicapped) get a rather pathetic treatment. This 'message,' of course, is buried in the story of a group of screwy teens who participate in motocross and lust after a french-fry vendor. The drama - if any was intended - is missing and the characters are one-dimensional.
