The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid

Director: Philip Kaufman
Year Released: 1972
Rating: 1.5

Historically questionable 'anti-Western' doesn't say much about Jesse James (Robert Duvall), Cole Younger (Cliff Robertson) or our National Obsession with Gangsters, but it does show that it sure was a dusty/dirty time to live. Kaufman suggests that James wasn't the charismatic mastermind many assumed he was, arguing that Younger was the brains, but it's a moot point, really - it's not much of an action picture and it's dramatically feeble. It does, on the other hand, feature what is arguably the most crooked baseball game in the movies I've seen (and I did see Eight Men Out).
