Tokyo Gore Police

Director: Yoshihiro Nishimura
Year Released: 2008
Rating: 2.5

Well, the title doesn't lie. The makers, presumably individuals who did not have many friends in high school, decided to remove such important 'cinematic' elements such as clear storytelling and intelligible dialogue and character development and get right to the good stuff, like indulging in their aggressive, blood-soaked, deeply juvenile fantasies, conjuring the most transgressive nonsense possible (a human chair that urinates! a quadriplegic woman-pet! a cock-cannon! a femalligator!) and then - with a surprising amount of talent - putting it on screen in the most graphic way possible as a display room of SFX and makeup. The influences are there - Tarantino's Kill Bill, Tetsuo: The Iron Man, various anime including Akira, video games like Soul Calibur and House of the Dead - and it's almost 100% fan service: Nishimura cares little about criticism and good taste. He's too busy stirring the barrels of corn syrup and red dye. The rating ... is really arbitrary.
