The Ten

Director: David Wain
Year Released: 2007
Rating: 2.0

So-so assemblage of ten shorts (loosely) based on the Ten Commandments, framed by Paul Rudd's philandering character who juggles three different women (Famke Janssen, Jessica Alba and Dianne Wiest … sort-of). As with all sketch comedy, sometimes the bits are inspired and sometimes they're not, and as with the crew's work on the MTV show The State, many of these pieces are either so dumb they're just … dumb (Winona Ryder's puppet obsession) or drag on and on (Adam Brody's partially buried skydiver). The most absurd segments work best (I think), especially the one based on not coveting your neighbor's goods, which has neighbors Joe Lo Truglio and Liev Schreiber collecting CT scan machines (the punchline's great).
