Charge of the Light Brigade, The

Director:  Michael Curtiz
Year Released:  1936
Rating:  2.5

Half a league, half a league, half a league onward, through a Californian field rode Errol Flynn, unsundered! The pro-Imperialism, pro-suicide mission message is ideologically irksome and hard to look past, though those with a strong taste for Hollywood Gloss will eat up Flynn's grinning, the over-the-top score and prerequisite romantic subplot in which Olivia de Havilland actually cheats on Mr. In-Like-Me for his younger brother. It does a serviceable job of getting the basic facts out there about the events leading up to the title massacre during the Crimean War, which helps keep the historically-impaired like myself from pausing and bolting to the archives.
