Sympathy for Lady Vengeance

Director: Park Chan-Wook
Year Released: 2005
Rating: 2.0

The unjustly-imprisoned Lady Vengeance gets out of jail and looks for the man who actually did commit the crime in this half-black comedy/half serious picture and the third of Park's trilogy of revenge. The black comedy section, with its clever cutting and bizarre dialogue is probably the best part - once it tries to elevate itself to some kind of discourse on morality and ethics regarding the victimized and their ability to collectively attack the victimizer, it moves into territory it's not complex enough to handle. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance was smart enough to stay flippant for the duration.
