Three... Extremes

Director: Fruit Chan, Park Chan-Wook and Takashi Miike
Year Released: 2004
Rating: 2.0

Another mixed-bag anthology film revolving around the idea of what three prominent directors from three different countries feel is the 'epitome of horror' (at least this is what Miike, from Japan, said in the commentary track). Park's story of an extra getting revenge on a director and Miike's tale of incest are sub-par (the Park piece is repetitive and banal; at least the Miike is gorgeous to look at), but my favorite is the Chan piece, a grizzly examination of the lengths one rich woman will go to be young again (and a clever way to tie in an anti-abortion statement as well). I do not possess a vagina of my own (cursed biology!), but the bathtub baby remover scene - and its accompanying 'lunch time' scene - had me cringe, which these days is almost impossible to do.
