Pioneers in Ingolstadt

Director: Rainer Werner Fassbinder
Year Released: 1971
Rating: 1.5

Typical Fassbinder film (in a lot of ways) in that it's about angst and discontent in 20th Century Germans (just like Katzelmacher) - when soldiers aren't rebuilding a bridge, they're passing the local ladies around to each other. Static approach usually works better in the theater than the screen and the methodical pacing, miserable characters and droll interaction require immense patience. It goes without saying that if you're familiar with - and have fondness for - Fassbinder's early work, you'll probably find more in this than I did.
