Mr. Klein

Director: Joseph Losey
Year Released: 1976
Rating: 0.5

Mr. Klein (Alain Delon) - an exploiter of Jews during pre-War France - finds himself mistaken for a Jew when a Jewish newspaper is sent to his door, thereby sending him on one long, tedious mission - for the rest of the movie - to sort out the misunderstanding; the end result is predictable. For someone afraid for his life, Delon appears awfully composed - there are hardly any 'peaks' and 'valleys' in terms of tension, and the examination of 'identity' is inferior to Losey's The Servant (thanks mostly to Harold Pinter's ambiguous script). This is some of the most inert filmmaking I've seen from the director.
