Confidentially Yours

Director: François Truffaut
Year Released: 1983
Rating: 2.0

Black and white homage to Hitchcock isn't exactly Truffaut's forte, and despite efforts to keep it moving forward, interest level wanes well before it's over. Fanny Ardent tries to be the modern woman and bring an aggressive slant to the lead role - she has to compensate for Jean-Louis Trintignant's impotent passiveness - but her character isn't complex enough and the plot not deep enough for it to matter much. Truffaut's penchant for breezy charm clashes with the story's occasional need for spontaneous energy.
