Three Brothers

Director: Francesco Rosi
Year Released: 1981
Rating: 2.0

Title figures - from three different classes in society - return home to their father to prepare for their mother's funeral and have to come to terms with their positions in life, their decisions and regrets. Works best when it avoids the politics and meandering conversations and sticks to the emotional confusion of the men at their own respective crossroads - but unfortunately, the multitude of long, shapeless scenes do not work in its favor, and the failure to 'tie together' the three lives leaves the ending wide open.
