Zootopia 2 (2025) review

The unlikely crime-fighting duo of rabbit Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) get in trouble with their boss Chief Bogo (Idris Elba) after they smash up the city of Zootopia trying to make an arrest, and then create more problems when they go "undercover" to track down a blue pit viper named Gary (Ke Huy Quan) who steals the Lynxley Journal, a book written by the city's founder, from a gala.  The animation is sharp and the characters are kind of cute (even though they overexaggerate their facial expressions like a Dreamworks release), but the execution is fairly routine and not inherently exciting, so the production team floods the screen with various animals and cuts rapidly hoping no one will notice.  It would have also been nice if the jokes weren't of the cornball variety and, since it's primarily a movie made for children (and Gen Z), there's the prerequisite trauma dumping scene (which is tough to sit through) and it concludes with a dance (led by Shakira) ... which I shouldn't complain too much about, because at least it encourages exercise.
