Freakier Friday
Director: Nisha Ganatra
Year Released: 2025
Rating: 1.0
Twenty-two years have passed since Mark Waters' version of Freaky Friday (based on the children's book by Mary Rodgers) was released, and now Anna Coleman (Lindsay Lohan), a successful music producer who remains very close with her mother Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis), becomes engaged to professional chef Eric Reyes (Manny Jacinto) even though Anna's daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and Eric's daughter Lily (Sophia Hammons) don't get along, and then poof there's a magical spell (cast by a Starbucks barista) where Anna and Harper switch bodies, as do Tess and Lily. As a Disney production, this exists solely to pander to the pre-teen crowd as the "jokes" and physical antics (a food fight, a sterilized dance party, a Thelma & Louise-inspired driving sequence) are embarrassing to watch (as an adult), and it doesn't seem like anyone "learns" anything substantial from "existing" in another person's flesh and bones, other than older individuals have bad knees and kids can eat garbage and not gain weight. Hollywood historians and movie fans in general should take note that this is actually a massive accomplishment for Madame Lohan, as she went from being supremely popular, crashing out, making questionable personal and career decisions to turning her life around and working with the Mouse once more.
