Honey Don't!
Director: Ethan Coen
Year Released: 2025
Rating: 0.5
Part two of director Coen and his spouse (and co-writer) Tricia Cooke's "lesbian trilogy" involves P.I. Honey O'Donahue (Margaret Qualley) getting inundated with cases on her home turf of Bakersfield, California: a young woman named Mia (Kara Petersen) is found dead in a car, Mr. Siegfried (Billy Eichner) suspects his boyfriend of cheating on him, her niece Corinne (Talia Ryder) goes missing, Reverend Drew (Chris Evans) is selling drugs ... and then Honey starts a romance with cop Falcone (Aubrey Plaza), who isn't trustworthy. Despite introducing all of these characters and subplots, it's completely inept at telling a story or tying anything together in a reasonable manner, so it's just a clumsy collection of incidents with no point to them, and even the sex scenes it seems so eager to get to are ridiculous (Falcone fingerbangs Honey in a crowded bar, sexaholic Drew engages in a threesome with some plump ladies, there's frequent muff diving, etc.). Qualley is a decent actress in the right role, and while her character has plenty of moxie, she's about as skilled at detective work as I am juggling switchblades blindfolded.
