I Love You Forever

Director: Cazzie David and Elisa Kalani
Year Released: 2024
Rating: 1.0

Disappointed by her "situationship" with fellow law student Jake (Raymond Cham Jr.), Mackenzie (Sofia Black-D'Elia) starts dating TV reporter Finn (Ray Nicholson) who's charming at first, but then his repugnant controlling side emerges as he constantly texts and calls her, has a meltdown when she doesn't respond immediately and disrupts her studies to the point where she's placed on academic probation.  Co-writer/director Cazzie, whose father is comedic icon Larry David, might have intended to make this a "black comedy" but it's mostly a one-note movie in which Black-D'Elia's character is the perpetual "victim" of inappropriate male behavior (even one of her professors supposedly got aggressive with her) and Nicholson repeatedly acts like a raving, gaslighting lunatic.  A few solid jokes would have helped balance out the tone considerably, and that final shot would have been more effective if the preceding events weren't so grim.
