Executioners
Director: Ching Siu-Tung and Johnny To
Year Released: 1993
Rating: 1.0
Following a "nuclear disaster" which has contaminated the water supply, the heroes from 1993's The Heroic Trio - Chelsea (Maggie Cheung), Carol (Michelle Yeoh) and Dorothy (Anita Mui), who has a daughter - have to team up to fight mangled-looking Mr. Kim (Anthony Wong), protect the President (Kwan Shan) and locate fresh H2O for the dirty and thirsty citizens. The original, for all its faults, at least made an attempt to be a "fun" action movie with the ladies soaring through the air with weapons - here, there are very few scenes of real combat (and they're quite brief until the conclusion), and for some reason it tries being serious, but the overly-dramatic camerawork and "acting" really work against it. Dorothy's kid Cindy - who never stops squawking - is particularly grating, and a good reminder why I've avoided working in elementary schools for over a decade now.
