Y2K

In 1999, unpopular high school chums Eli (Jaeden Martell) and Danny (Julian Dennison) are planning on staying in on New Year's Eve and watching a movie (Junior with Arnold Schwarzenegger) but after chugging some liquid courage, they head out to a party where Eli tries to talk to attractive coding whiz Laura (Rachel Zegler) ... but when the clock hits 2000, the Y2K bug makes computers and appliances go rogue: part of a ceiling fan goes through someone's skull, a teenager gets his genitals munched up by a blender and armed robots emerge intent to turn humans into their slaves. For those that weren't around at the time (or still toddlers) this was a real problem that had people genuinely concerned (although nothing substantial actually happened), except this Jonah Hill-produced bit of Elder Millennial Doomsday Nostalgia (which uses elements from RoboCop 2 and Robot Jox) is inconsistent in tone and way too amused with its own intentional goofiness. Singer Fred Durst of nu metal/rap rock outfit Limp Bizkit pops up as "himself" - he claims he's been separated from his band - and I'll use this opportunity to make the unfortunate admission that I find several of their songs to be fun in a guilty pleasure sort-of way (I think Wes Borland is an underrated guitarist).
