Blade

Director: Stephen Norrington
Year Released: 1998
Rating: 2.0

Half-human, half-vampire Blade (Wesley Snipes), along with his partner/medic Abraham Whistler (Kris Kristofferson), goes around the city slicing up bloodsuckers (out of revenge for the death of his mother) and then faces off against junkie club-kid Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff), who wants to summon the Blood God and annihilate the human race.  Here's a Marvel movie made before The Walt Disney Company bought everything up that, despite its comic book trappings and two-dimensional characters, at least has the audacity to maximize the violence and exploding bodies to secure that R-rating: the opening sequence at a gore-soaked rave is "cool" to watch in a pre-Matrix sort of way.  As it turns out, the only thing scarier than a silver bullet is an audit by the Internal Revenue Service.
