Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Director: Ryan Coogler
Year Released: 2022
Rating: 1.0

While the citizens of Wakanda are mourning the loss of King T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) - including his sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) and mother Ramonda (Angela Bassett) - the rest of the world is ravenous for the metal vibranium ... especially Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejía) of the Talokan Kingdom, who wants to use it to start a war against the "surface dwellers."  The special effects and costumes are snazzy (as usual considering Disney is footing the bill) but the script itself (by Coogler and Joe Robert Cole) is incompetently constructed and just feels like nonstop plot exposition as they fly all around the globe (Langley! Cambridge! Cape Verde! Haiti! The Yucatán Peninsula!) to try to seem "worldly."  I think one of the major issues is that it takes itself entirely too seriously ... when it's yet another comic book movie, not frickin' Frantz Fanon.  The opening sequence is touching, though: Boseman passed away in 2020, and this is respectfully dedicated to his memory.
