Bad Trip

Director: Kitao Sakurai
Year Released: 2021
Rating: 2.0

Long-time buds Chris (Eric André) and Bud (Lil Rel Howery) take a road trip from Florida to NYC so Chris can get back in touch with his old classmate Maria Li (Michaela Conlin) - who runs an art gallery - but the car they're using to get there is owned by Bud's sister Trina (Tiffany Haddish), and she's not exactly a calm person.  As a "prank" movie it's nice to see them try to make it into something of a "story" (however thin it is), and while it's child-like and juvenile, it also has this chaotic energy to it that's hard to deny: for every bit that fails, there's one that's downright hilarious, and André's lust for chaos radiates throughout (the same way it does on his TV show ... or anything else he's involved in).  It's one of those "I'm not proud of laughing at this" type of movies, but sometimes easy laughs are quite soothing: rock on you raving lunatic.
