Forklift operator Lydia (Melissa McCarthy) reunites with childhood chum Emily Stanton (Octavia Spencer) - who is a wildly successful CEO - during the night of their school reunion and gets accidentally injected with a serum to gain superpowers - it turns out Stanton was developing technology to stop evil antiheroes called Miscreants, led by "The King" (Bobby Cannavale).  I get the "need" to cash in on the Superhero craze (that should have petered out years ago, but alas...), but this is absolutely painful to watch: all of the jokes thud hard (it relies too much on the plus-sized McCarthy falling down and rolling around) and it's just one poor decision made after another (casting Jason Bateman as a half-man/half-crab is a particularly low moment).  I guess there's a message in there about female empowerment or something like that, but don't dampen the cause by going in half-assed.
