Akira Kurosawa's Dreams

Director: Akira Kurosawa
Year Released: 1990
Rating: 2.0

Or, more appropriately, Akira Kurosawa's Metaphors. A.K. films eight of his 'dreams' (which are far more linear, apparently, than most people's), all of which have the common theme of man's steady decline and the destruction of nature - however, the project itself seems antithetical to Kurosawa's real strength, which is building up his films' momentum as they progress; the pieces appear to end before they even got started. Some of the segments of the individual films work - like the shots of the sunflowers or the windmill village - but as a 'complete' movie, it's far too preachy and obvious.
