Eat Drink Man Woman

Director: Ang Lee
Year Released: 1994
Rating: 2.5

It isn't often that human beings are upstaged by food, but that's the case with Ang Lee's film, where the cooked delicacies draw your complete and total attention away from the plot, the dialogue and everything else. In fact, whenever there isn't food being prepared, you begin to get restless, enduring the stories of three sisters, unmarried and living with their eccentric master chef father and actively trying to establish lives of their own. Parts of the picture sag – mostly in the last act – but I still found enough good feeling and warmth in the tone to enjoy myself.
