Ms. 45

Director: Abel Ferrara
Year Released: 1981
Rating: 2.0

Zoë Tamerlis is raped twice by New York creeps - she then seeks revenge as some sort of feminist superhero out to destroy all men (she doesn't have to look far, either, since the majority of male characters she encounters are sexual predators). Aside from glossy stylistics, there is little difference between this and, say, Last House on the Left, I Spit On Your Grave and Baise-Moi - saying you like this and not those simply won't cut it. The acting is sub-par (but average for a low-budget feature - the late Ms. Tamerlis' character is a mute so she doesn't ruin any lines) and someone should have taken out the obnoxious "musicians." Ferrara fans will certainly enjoy the nun costume bit and 'kissing the bullets' Scorsese-style - Laura Mulvey no doubt noticed how Ms. 45's killer holds the knife-phallus (so much for subtlety).
