Double Lover

Director: François Ozon
Year Released: 2017
Rating: 1.0

Frazzled Chloé (Marine Vacth) goes to psychoanalyst Paul (Jérémie Renier) for support but he ends up falling in love with her (which is probably not what they teach you to do in Freud School) ... and it turns out he has a twin brother, Louis (Renier again, but with a different hairstyle), so she starts sleeping with him too (... and becomes pregnant). Ozon based this on a novel by Joyce Carol Oates (under a pseudonym), and adds in some peculiar details, like starting the movie on an actual shot of a vaginal speculum in use, Renier getting pegged (!?) and Vacth giving birth to a monster out of Alien (because ... why not?) but not even the sensationalist inserts do much to clarify the frustratingly muddied storyline, in which nothing is clarified and it could all be a product of Chloé's disturbed mental state. I suspect this was Ozon's attempt to 'mock'/emulate Fifty Shades of Grey, but the script shouldn't be just as brain-dead.
