Logan Lucky

Director:  Steven Soderbergh
Year Released:  2017
Rating:  2.0

Blue collar Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum) and his wounded warrior/bartender brother Clyde (Adam Driver) decide they're going to rob the Coca-Cola 600 race of all their loose cash (which is conveniently piled up in a giant plastic bin beneath the speedway) but need to assemble a crew, so they convince prisoner Joe Bang (Daniel Craig), his brothers (Brian Gleeson and Jack Quaid) and their own sister Mellie (Riley Keough) to help. Soderbergh was supposed to be retired, but like other retirees can't stay on the couch for too long, so he goes back to doing what he does best (which isn't saying much): having his ensemble cast, one by one, busy themselves with little details of the heist, then pulling off the heist, then thinking they got away with it ... without explaining in advance their game plan (the "scheme" breaks down easily if you analyze the logistics). It plays out like a breeze once it encourages you to stop thinking ... which is the hallmark of a pure technician (who, again, served as his own cinematographer ... and maybe screenwriter?). Humble suggestion: buy a comfier recliner and stay there.
