Okja

Director: Bong Joon-Ho
Year Released: 2017
Rating: 1.0

Controversial "Mirando Corporation" - run by twin sisters Lucy and Nancy (both played by Ms. Tilda) - 'loan out' super-pigs to farmers around the world - little Mija (Ahn Seo-hyun) and her family get one (they name her Okja) and love it ... except when Mirando wants it back, and then Mija follows her porcine friend to NYC (also involved: animal rights activists, controlled by Paul Dano). It doesn't exactly work as a comedy or satire of corporate greed - Mirando sounds a lot like poison-peddler Monsanto (I don't trust any movie that sides with the sketchy PETA) - and the little girl is quite unlikable (Okja isn't cute like Totoro, either). Why is Jake Gyllenhaal acting like Paul Lynde? I wonder if the modified pigs really do taste amazing ... would they impress Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern's discerning palates?
