How to Marry a Millionaire

Director: Jean Negulesco
Year Released: 1953
Rating: 1.0

Attractive female trio - Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall (their ringleader) - put their heads together, realizing that the only quality to be admired in a man is how much money he makes. They then go on the prowl, sniffing out snooty entrepreneurs and ridiculing anyone who doesn't meet their highest standards. This one-note premise leads to the Aesopian conclusion that money isn't everything, unless of course you're Lauren Bacall, who "gets stuck with" this gentleman she thinks pumps gas (he doesn't wear a tie! he eats only hamburgers!), but in all actuality is merely an eccentric, carrying rolls of bills the size of softballs. The others have the misfortune of falling in love with poor losers.
