The Boss

Director: Ben Falcone
Year Released: 2016
Rating: 1.0

Suze Orman/Joy Mangano-type entrepreneur Michelle Darnell (Melissa McCarthy) is sent to country club prison for insider trading (the best kind of trading, if you ask me) because of a jilted ex-lover Renault (Peter Dinklage); when released, she goes to live with former assistant Claire (Kristen Bell), who makes a mean brownie (without marijuana in it!) ... and the two start a company together. It's clear by now that McCarthy's verbal wit is formidable - she's smooth with the zingers - but this movie (directed by her husband) is definitely low effort and done with precious little creativity, rolling McCarthy's plus-size frame around for cheap laughs and ending with an actual sword fight (?) atop a skyscraper (?!), as if the writers needed to borrow from video games in order to bring this to a close. Important tidbit to take from this: like every professional hockey team, every Girl Scout type troop needs an enforcer (Eva Peterson).
