The Yes Men Are Revolting

Director: Laura Nix, Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno
Year Released: 2014
Rating: 2.5

Environmental activists The Yes Men (Bichlbaum and Bonanno) go out and pull pranks on Big Business (and the press ... and the general public) in order to draw attention to global warming (an issue Al Gore's been obsessed with - and rightfully so - for decades). This is more-or-less a greatest hits (and one huge miss in Amsterdam) compilation of the duo's antics, with an intriguing dose of personal information thrown in there (both men came from anti-authoritarian backgrounds, both liked to play in scrap yards as kids, Bichlbaum is openly gay while Bonanno has a wife and several children). It still feels a smidge self-congratulatory - and, as I hate to say it, more than a little Michael Moore-ian ... but without the same level of humor - and (sorry, gentlemen) quite smug. There are lingering questions that never get fully answered: who's really funding these guys? How do they get off from work for extended periods of time to pull of these 'actions' (even professors need to put in actual teaching time)? Who is financially secure enough to fend off (and actually sneer at) a lawsuit from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce?
