Edward Scissorhands

Director: Tim Burton
Year Released: 1990
Rating: 1.5

Overrated fairy-tale about dry, color-coded conformist town and the effect a gloomy outcast has on them (and their sense of individualism). For all the inventiveness of the Edward character (Johnny Depp), it is just another fish-out-of-water story - the town's treatment towards Edward shifts from 'reverence to rape' as several misinterpreted incidents make him look like a monster (just like Burton's source material, Frankenstein) and force you to pity him. Winona Ryder is given a throwaway role as the woman he adores but can't have - casting Anthony Michael Hall as the obnoxious villain is some sort of joke.
