Jealousy

Director: Philippe Garrel
Year Released: 2013
Rating: 1.0

Theatre actor Louis (Louis Garrel) is engaging in an affair with an equally flaky woman (Anna Mouglalis) while his wife stays at home to cook, be depressed and watch over their daughter. Precious little in terms of dramatic tension (even Garrel shooting himself in the chest comes across as a routine act), it feels like a weak self-healing exercise in which the Garrels are working out autobiographical baggage (Louis' daughter is actually based on Louis as a child while Louis is playing his Pop). Philippe Garrel made, in my mind, one of the quintessential break-up movies of all time - the criminally under-seen The Inner Scar - while this only obtains a small measure of warmth when Louis spends quality time with his kid.
