The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears

Director: Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani
Year Released: 2013
Rating: 1.5

Another visual extravaganza (at the detriment of all else) from the team of Cattet and Forzani has some bloke (Klaus Tange) searching for his missing wife in his apartment complex: what follows is an excuse for the duo to show off every film school trick in one hundred minutes. Strictly art-house - and emotionally cold - dissection of a horror movie isn't scary so much as a game of Spot the Reference (Maddin, Brakhage, Argento, Fulci etc.) and more of a visual experience to 'appreciate' than be 'drawn in by' (I do admire the gory special effects and trademark colorful lighting). Cattet and Forzani operate more effectively when making experimental shorts (their "O is for Orgasm" is one of the best parts of The ABCs of Death) - their scrambled, hyperkinetic approach doesn't translate to feature length moviemaking.
