Kick-Ass 2

Director: Jeff Wadlow
Year Released: 2013
Rating: 0.5

Atrocious sequel to the mediocre first Kick-Ass movie has self-made superhero Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and pal Hit-Girl (Chloƫ Grace Moritz) going their own separate ways: Kick-Ass teams up (against his father's wishes) with a rag-tag group of budding superhero wannabes (including Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars and Stripes) to battle kinky super-villain The Motherfucker (Christopher Mintz-Plasse, forever McLovin) while Hit-Girl tries to be one of the cool kids in school (and fails miserably). More concerned with Internet Culture than reality, these cartoony, one-dimensional crackpots appear sociopathically out-of-touch with human emotion - Wadlow's take on the life of a teenager is based not on the more perceptive accounts of Those Troubling Years, but how many times he's watched Mean Girls, and the gruesome death of a parent is met not with tears but with a battle in a cemetery. The carnage is showy and tiring, and utilizing CGI vomit and diarrhea is probably best left to Takashi Miike.
