Mopey musician Joby (Paul Dano) fights for custody of his daughter from his estranged wife and looks really, really sad about it ... and looks sad repeatedly. Essentially a 90 minute pity party, it's lightweight as drama ... plus it omits the particulars as to what led to Dano's relationship fallout and why he didn't bother trying to connect with his daughter sooner (if it was to pursue his musical dreams, then he's just selfish and self-centered). Casting Dano as a rock star is but one of the movie's biggest problems; cribbing from Five Easy Pieces for the conclusion is just lazy.
