Larry Crowne

Director: Tom Hanks
Year Released: 2011
Rating: 0.5

Retail worker Larry (Tom Hanks) gets laid off because he doesn't have a college degree, so he enrolls at a local community college where he meets the most impossibly nice people who inexplicably change his life. Manages to get everything wrong (and bravo for that): the implausible friendship Crowne forms with a local scooter gang (??), the improbable 'life lessons' he learns from Julia Roberts' speech teacher and George Takai's economics teacher, the improbable new lease-on-life he gains from these interactions. It's earnest but bad, a desperate attempt to make the recently unemployed (and there are a lot of those) feel better. Had Crowne taken any classes from me, this would no longer be rated PG-13.
