Mafioso

Director: Alberto Lattuada
Year Released: 1962
Rating: 2.0

A factory manager from Milan (Alberto Sordi) takes his wife and two daughters to his hometown in Sicily, where he introduces them to his family and old friends, but loyalty to the local mafia forces him to leave and 'do a job' in New York City. The picture wanders around Sicily impassively most of its running time - employing some ineffective black comedy (exaggerated gestures! rapid conversations! female body hair!) - before coming to the realization that 'something' needs to happen and Sordi's genteel air gets tested when he's literally boxed up and shipped to America. Other than reiterating the old adage about not being able to go home again, it offers little else.
