Rumba

Director: Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon and Bruno Romy
Year Released: 2008
Rating: 2.0

Two teachers (Dominique Abel and Fiona Gordon) are fans of Cuban dancing, but when they get in a car accident and one loses his memory and the other part of her leg, their career is cut short ... and from there life only gets worse. Cute, proto-Tati trifle is amusing at first - the filmmaking trio is good at quirky camera setups and putting their own spin on basic sight gags (like the unraveling sweater bit) - but they don't have anywhere to go with the material and even at 70 minutes it's mighty thin. Between this and (the slightly better) L'Iceberg, I'm not sure they have much to say about the human condition - their (mostly) happily-ever-after endings seem pulled from children's stories.
