The Road to El Dorado

Director: Eric 'Bibo' Bergeron
Year Released: 2000
Rating: 1.5

Animated fluff about a familiar story - adventurers stumble upon the fabled title city, are considered gods by the natives (Why? Because they're white?) even though they bungle everything up in a human way; eventually they have to fight against the bad wizard/dissenter (voiced by Armand Assante, loving his job), outsmart him and escape with all the gold treasure. In a world in which money dictates everything, its motive is to inform us that both friendship and fun are more relevant than riches. Tell Jeffrey Katzenburg that and watch him believe you. I found myself being less-than-interested in the dull proceedings, bored by the montage-like music video segments, in which Elton John sings the narration and uninspired goofiness abounds.
