Flesh

Director: Paul Morrissey
Year Released: 1968
Rating: 2.0

The title is certainly correct: Joe Dallesandro - like your prototypical cinematic female - has his body closely examined by Morrissey's very curious camera, and at every opportunity "Little Joe" is encouraged by various male and female "characters" to undress. There isn't much of a point to all this - it's an exercise in cinema verite and fetishism - and mainly exists as an odd time capsule from the late 60's, with a style just like that of the static, staring - and currently hard-to-find - Warhol pictures like The Chelsea Girls (made with Morrissey) and Sleep. The ratio of male-to-female nudity is lopsided, so it goes without saying that homophobes will want to steer clear.
