Annapolis

Director: Justin Lin
Year Released: 2006
Rating: 0.5

Depressingly uninspired meld of the following (that I identified): a little bit of Rocky (the boxing scenes), a whole lot of Rudy (blue collar kid goes to school that's technically 'out of his league' and succeeds), dabs of Full Metal Jacket (the kid from Arkansas is this movie's "Gomer Pyle"), Vision Quest (Jordana Brewster as Linda Fiorentino!?) and some good old fashioned flag waving (wait, aren't both the Army and Marines really taking the hits?). It's not that James Franco is bad in this, he just looks confused and displaced - Tyrese fares slightly better as the Marine-turned-instructor - and the movie has absolutely nothing of merit to offer, other than to kiss the ass of the Naval Academy.
