A drug addict (Jennifer Jason Leigh) feels resentment towards her musical superstar sister (Mare Winningham) because not only is her sister's life stable, she was also given all the talent in the family. It's mostly predictable from the beginning as to where all this is going - essentially, it's seeing Leigh ruin her body with heroin or NyQuil (depending on the day) and making a fool of herself on stage - so what's left is an Acting Clinic put on by the performers. Leigh, in fact, is so good I kept wondering exactly how much is performance and how much is taken from her own life; Ted Levine, to free himself from his super-scary role in Silence of the Lambs, stands out as Winningham's calm and understanding husband.
